i've noticed that other bloggers have been winning TiVo's. it's a little writing contest, so i decided to throw something into the fray. you have to convince the judges why you think you should get one in 250 words or less. here's what i wrote:

As a child, my family was poor. My parents would give me the little bit of money that they made but soon enough, they were arrested for counterfeiting and I became a ward of the court. At the orphanage, I won a tape recorder in game of dice against Sister Mary. It was black and had the built-in speaker and the red record button. I‘d hold it against the speaker of Father O’Malley’s HiFi system to tape my favorite songs on the radio. You’d hear the scratching of the speaker fabric against the microphone and occasionally in the middle of a song you’d hear, “VICTOR! What did God tell you about using the stereo without permission?” It was so aggravating, but it was the only way I could record what I wanted. Well, thirty years later, things are still the same. My parents finally got out of jail and we’re still poor. They did get a television after my Uncle Joe died (Don’t tell my Aunt Dottie. She thinks it was donated to the church). I still have my recorder and I use it to tape television programs. Sure, it doesn’t have a picture, but that’s what my camera is for. It was a decent way to record my shows, but then I saw an ad for TiVo. What a dream come true! Please, consider me for one of the recipients of the free TiVo. You will make me a very happy man.

P.S. Did I mention that I’m single?
